The Grisha Verse created by Leigh makes me wish I had power over an element. The story is centered around Alina as she discovers something incredibly unique about herself and incredibly important to the future of everyone. This is book one in the trilogy. Alina is rushed into a lifestyle completely different from her past. Separated from her only friend Mal, Alina must navigate a new world among many people who most likely want her death more than her success. As her powers grow a long history begins to come full circle by the end of book three. Each book had me rooting for Alina as she grows herself, her powers, as a saint, and in love. I recommend all three books for sure!
This is a separate adventure regarding Nicholas Flamel. No Harry Potter connection. Michael Scott (no Office Connection) writes a wonderful story that draws connections between all time periods myths, and legends into our modern world. Twin teens gain knowledge of a world where alchemy, magic, sorcery, and necromancers exist. By accident or prophecy? This is book one in a series and it sets the scene brilliantly for the next books. I recommend the entire series. I thoroughly enjoyed moving through the story from all of the perspectives of the characters, especially the twins as they learn more about themselves, this hidden world and past legends.
