I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter

I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter Book Cover

Ms. Sanchez does an amazing job of bringing the reader into the mind and culture of the main character, Julia Reyes, who recently lost her sister in a tragic accident. The way Ms. Sanchez navigates the grief of Julia and her family is beautiful. I truly wish this book would have been around when I was a younger!

Set during the infamous siege of Leningrad; this book has a dark humor tone. Not usually what I would pick up, but I loved it.

Paulo Coelho's enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following, almost a cult, around the world. This story is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried near the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to overcome all of the obstacles in his path (and they are many). What starts out as a journey to find riches turns into a discovery of the treasure found within, including love.
