Sustainability To Go – Stainless Steel Straw
October 3, 2022
Event Details
Resource kits to go will be provided monthly to foster learning about the environment and ways to live sustainably. Pick up a free kit and explore the Sustainability Resource Center.
October’s item is a stainless steel straw.
Say no to throwaway culture! Plastic straws are made to be used once, thrown away to remain as trash for 200+ years. Plastic straws, even those marked “compostable”, are virtually impossible to recycle or compost in Utah, and are one of the most common types of litter. A single stainless steel straw, on the other hand, can be used and cleaned thousands of times. An added bonus is that stainless steel is one of the most recyclable materials in the world. Eco tip: Metal is infinitely more recyclable than plastic. When selecting your favorite beverages at the store, opt for metals cans instead plastic.
