Deer Valley, in partnership with the Park City Library, presents a special Park City Community screening of “The Paradise Paradox” a film that sheds light on the challenges our resort employees face and authentically portrays the complexities surrounding mental health in mountain communities.
This screening is not only a celebration of the film itself but also a tribute to Deer Valley’s own team members who participated, both on-screen and behind the scenes. Among them is Mark Chytka, a dedicated member of Deer Valley’s Ski Patrol for 16 years.
Hosting this screening is essential for raising awareness, fostering understanding, and destigmatizing discussions around mental health. It’s an opportunity to promote open dialogue and strengthen a culture of compassion and unity beyond our slopes.
Directly following the film, there will be a panel discussion with local activists, advocates, athletes.
Moreover, this event provides a platform for you to connect with available community resources. We understand that the film’s content, while ultimately uplifting, may be intense and potentially triggering for some viewers. Therefore, we have dedicated space adjacent to the theater with people and information on hand. There are numerous resources for local behavioral health services, and we hope you’ll take the opportunity to connect with some of them before or after the film.
About the film:
Executive produced by Olympic ski racer Bode Miller and Emmy Award-winning impact sports filmmaker Brett Rapkin, The Paradise Paradox explores the mental health crisis affecting America’s mountain towns and the innovative solutions being developed in response. By opening up the conversation, the stigmas can start to melt away and real progress can be made for the citizens of these towns and beyond.
