Are you curious about your family’s roots? Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced genealogist, Ancestry Library Edition is a powerful resource available for free at the Park City Library that can help you uncover your family history.
What is Ancestry Library Edition?
Ancestry Library Edition is a library-exclusive version of the popular Ancestry.com genealogy website, made available through ProQuest. It provides access to billions of historical records from around the world—including census data, birth and death certificates, military records, immigration files, and more.
While it offers many of the same research tools as the personal subscription version, there are a few key differences to keep in mind.
Key Features:
- Access to Billions of Records:
Search through U.S. and international census records, military files, immigration documents, directories, church registers, and more. - View, But Not Create, Family Trees:
Unlike the paid Ancestry.com version, you can’t create or save your own family tree. However, you can view other users’ public family trees and use them as research references. - Download and Save Records:
You can download documents and records that you can’t find anywhere else to your own device or email them to yourself to continue your research at home. Photos, school yearbooks, birth marriage and death certificates, and more.
How to Get Started:
- Visit the Park City Library and connect to our public computers or Wi-Fi on your personal device. (Ancestry Library Edition is accessible only inside the library—either on our public computers or on your own device using the library’s Wi-Fi. It is not available for remote use.)
- Go to parkcitylibrary.org
- Click the eLibrary tab.
- Select Research and Learn.
- Scroll down and click Ancestry Library Edition.
- Click Explore to begin your search!
Whether you’re tracing a family story, starting a genealogy project, or simply exploring your heritage, Ancestry Library Edition is a valuable tool—and it’s completely free with your library visit.
