Hi I’m Kai, I’m 15 years old and I am going into my sophomore year at Park City High School. I have two dogs and I love taking them on long hikes. I interned at the library in 2022. Here are some of my favorite books I recommend reading.
Kai’s Favorite Books
In an apocalyptic world after most of the world is thinned out by a communicable blood disease, a pilot keeps track of the days in his fortified airport. He lost his family, his wife, and passes his days pretending everything is the same as it was by fishing and hunting. He starts to hear a distant airport calling over the radio and decides to break the cycle by flying away with not enough fuel to return.
I enjoyed this book a lot because of the focus on the small, everyday things you don’t usually get in these disaster-related apocolyptic books. The attention to detail the author takes to world-building in this book is on point and he takes into account things you wouldn’t even think of.
This is an amazing book for teens and older.
The Secret series is based on two teenagers finding themselves in a huge magical mystery after finding an odd box in one of their grandfather’s garage sales. It sends Cass and Max-Ernest to an old magician’s house, and they find out that someone else is also trying to find out the mystery of this mysterious magician. They flee with a clue, sending them on a cat and mouse chase full of puzzle pieces that don’t quite fit together.
I love this series because it never quite gives you the full answer. There is always something at the end that is left unsolved, that doesn’t have a guaranteed answer in the next book. Cass and Max-Ernest are also a good crew due to their vastly different ways of thinking and solving problems, leading to a lot of different ideas and approaches.
This good is a good read for kids who like chapter books as well as teens.
Restart is a book about a young kid named Chase who fell off a roof which led to a diagnosis of amnesia. He has to learn his whole life again but when he starts to try and put the pieces together of who he was, no one answers his questions but they seem scared of him. Is he going to be friends with these people instead of a bully is the question that he starts asking himself. Is he destined to become the same person again?
I liked this book because you learn with the main character, Chase. They don’t immediately tell you everything and not every question is answered.
Its a good read for anyone who enjoys short chapter books.
The I Funny series puts you into the head of a teenager who was paralyzed from the legs down, but loves making people laugh since laughter is the best medicine. Jame Grimm has a dream to be the best comedian in the world, and when his Uncle suggests he enter the Planet’s Funniest Kid Comic he jumps on the opportunity, but not without doubts. His cousin Stevie is relentless with criticism and finds any way to make Jamie feel bad about himself. You watch as Jamie moves through these struggles and develops new ones, and how he keeps coping.
I liked this book because it well illustrates a lot of the struggles that any middle/high schooler goes through. James Patterson also has a good way of building the story and developing his characters in a natural and realistic way.
Its a good read for anyone who enjoys medium-length chapter books.
Revenge of the Sith is the final movie of the Star Wars prequel era, and the last movie of the broken Republic’s delayed downfall. The lightsaber choreography is absolutely amazing in this film, showing the mastery of Lord Sidious, Dooku, Yoda, and Obi-Wan.
The music along with it is famously composed by John Williams and sets the atmosphere perfectly for almost every scene.
Good watch if you know what is going on behind the scenes in the rest of the Star Wars universe.
Dunkirk is a quiet film of the largest evacuation effort in history. After the Axis Forces had advanced through France, the British Expeditionary Force and the remainder of the French Army was forced to hold Dunkirk to give themselves enough time to flee over the channel. Soliders do anything to escape France as the Royal Air Force scrambles spitfires as the Axis forces attempt to bomb and torpedo the fleeing ships.
